Welcome to American Way Farm
Way "up nawth" in northern NH, where the snowdrifts are big enough to have their own zip codes, life on the farm comes with equal parts work, wonder, and comic relief. I’m Sandy Davis—farmer, storyteller, and frequent victim of livestock with too much personality. Here’s where I share the true (and mostly true) tales of everyday life on American Way Farm—the moments that inspired my book Between the Fenceposts.

Grandson's Eagle Scout Project

My grandson worked hard to earn his Eagle Scout, and we couldn’t be prouder of him. He’ll never admit it, but his Scoutmaster, his mom, Papa, and I worked just as hard — if not harder — right alongside him. Anyone who’s been part of an Eagle project knows it’s not just about earning a badge. It’s about leadership, teamwork, and learning how to see something through from idea to completion — even when you’re tired, frustrated, or knee-deep in packing peanuts.

The idea for his project was all his own, and it couldn’t have been more meaningful. He decided to collect items for care packages to send to active-duty servicemen and women stationed overseas, far from their families. What started as a few donation boxes around town quickly grew into a full community effort. Neighbors, friends, and even local businesses pitched in — donating snacks, socks, books, toiletries, and even money to cover the cost of shipping.

He also approached a local grammar school and asked the kids to write personal notes of appreciation to tuck into each box. Those handwritten letters — colorful, funny, and full of genuine gratitude — ended up being the most touching part of the whole project. It was proof that kindness multiplies when you invite others to be part of it.

When it came time to pack everything up, we turned the house into a makeshift post office. The whole family helped assemble, tape, and label dozens of boxes that were filled not just with supplies, but with love.

When he finally stood at his Eagle ceremony, the pride on his face said it all. His project reached across oceans, but it started right here — with one young man, one good idea, and a heart full of purpose.

That’s what being an Eagle Scout is all about.

What a caring grandson you have and what a blessing those troops are going to have because of his caring.
