Welcome to American Way Farm
Way "up nawth" in northern NH, where the snowdrifts are big enough to have their own zip codes, life on the farm comes with equal parts work, wonder, and comic relief. I’m Sandy Davis—farmer, storyteller, and frequent victim of livestock with too much personality. Here’s where I share the true (and mostly true) tales of everyday life on American Way Farm—the moments that inspired my book Between the Fenceposts.

Upside Down: A Christmas Message That’ll Surprise You

OK, so this Christmas message is a little late. But a friend just e-mailed it to me, and it was too good not to share. The video’s called “Upside Down,” and if you haven’t seen it yet, it’s one of those short pieces that grabs your attention — and then flips your perspective completely.

At first, it sounds like a cynical take on Christmas — the kind of thing you might hear from someone who’s fed up with all the commercialism, chaos, and credit card debt that seem to have replaced the season’s meaning. It almost sounds depressing, like the speaker has given up on Christmas altogether. But then comes the twist. The narrator tells you to listen again — backward. And suddenly, every line means the exact opposite.

What started as hopeless turns into hopeful. What sounded selfish becomes selfless. It’s like watching the world turn right-side up again, and you realize the message isn’t negative at all — it’s a reminder that perspective matters.

Even though it’s January, I think it’s still the perfect time to say Merry Christmas. Because honestly, the message of that video doesn’t have an expiration date. It’s about rediscovering faith, kindness, and gratitude — the things that should last long after the tree comes down and the lights are packed away.

So if you’ve got a few minutes, give Upside Down a listen — all the way to the end. It’s simple, clever, and powerful. And who knows? It might just remind you that while the holidays come once a year, the spirit behind them should last a lifetime.

Merry Christmas — even if it’s a little late.

I thought that was horriable until the end. That was great!

Wow! That was simply wonderful ... and you're right, that is definately not just a Christmas message.

I read your post on the wood stove this morning and I feel exactly the same way. It was a bit of a splurge for us when we first built the house. We didn't add any other extras and were on a tight budget, but installing our wood stove was the best choice. No other heat warms like a wood stove. Its one of life's simply pleasures.

Smiles,
Lea

I was watching it and I was trying to get the point and then at the end I finally got it. It's awesome.
